Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Joshua Ackerland. I am the owner of Harold’s Roofing. We provide residential and commercial roofing services as well as siding and gutter replacement.
Let me tell you a little bit about our business. Harold’s Roofing was established in the 1980s by my father, Harold Ackerland. Harold came to Moline, IL, from North Dakota with his family in 1954. He grew up in construction. Initially, he worked mainly with concrete. After marrying in the 1960s, he worked for John Deere for almost 10 years. However, he desired to be his own boss and to work in construction. He went back to concrete work at that point. However, that began to take a toll on him physically, and he shifted his focus to roofing. This may sound funny. If you have ever done any roofing, you would know that roofing is physically hard on you as well. However, it was a good fit for my dad. There were several hailstorms that took place in the 1980s, which provided Dad with lots of work and lots of happy customers! The business began to thrive.
What is my background in the business? I often tell our customers, “I didn’t learn the business from the ground up. I learned it from the roof down.” Dad trained me on the roof when I was a teenager. Those years of experience have proved invaluable. They taught me not only the best practices for roofing, siding, and gutters but also how to care for our customers in a way that they appreciate.
My son, Samuel, now acts as a project manager for the company. I am working to teach him the same business practices that my dad taught me. Eventually, I expect the company to be passed to him.
As a family-owned business, we are big enough to get your project done in a timely manner. Small enough to provide the kind of service you would expect from a local family-owned business. We are licensed both in Illinois and Iowa.
